With simulated Mars Rock
Demonstration at NASA AMES
on K-9 Rover

As the name implies,
Sensors and Instruments is the group specialty. Our
SIG people have been “instrumental” in providing key
devices on major programs over the years.
The primary efforts at the moment for our SIG are in preparing
several proposals for the continued advancement of the MICA
(Mineral Identification & Composition Analyzer) Instrument
within the NASA centers. The group continues to advance the technology and new variants to fit a variety of applications.
A major new thrust for MICA is in looking forward
toward Lunar Lander Mission, Lunar Rover applications and beyond to
future use by landed astronauts. SIG is also working closely with SETI
in development of ground based versions of MICA for university
laboratories and research centers.
The SIG is also responsible for our work in the areas such as
Cryogenics, Cryo-Systems, Pulse Tube Coolers (PTCs), and Zero-G Mass
Gauging systems and detectors, to name a few.
